Nottingham is a gorgeous city with a ton to see and explore. If you’re plotting out an England itinerary, you should definitely add in a stop in this historic city. Since it’s surrounded by the stunning Nottinghamshire countryside, if you’re visiting the city, you should definitely look at day trips to some beautiful places nearby. The surrounding areas are full of castles, nature reserves, parks and country walks, all within an hour’s drive. While the city provides plenty to see, you’ll find there are even more exciting day trips from Nottingham. From seeing 900-year-old castles, visiting the home of Robin Hood, spectacular countryside in the Peak District, and romantic stately homes belonging to former poets, there are plenty of Nottingham day trips to keep you entertained. The National Justice Museum is an independent museum on High Pavement in the Lace Market area of Nottingham, England. The museum is housed in a former Victorian courtroom, prison, and police station and is therefore a historic site where an individual could be arrested, tried, sentenced and executed. New Art Exchange Visual arts centre led by African, Caribbean and South Asian artists. Nottingham Contemporary is one of the largest contemporary art galleries in the UK, presenting exhibitions, special events, and family activities.

From the modern London Eye to the historic Tower of London, there are many attractions in London that are a must-see on any sightseeing trip. Even better, many London landmarks are free to visit. Soak up some culture at London museums, visit Buckingham Palace, or take the perfect picture with Big Ben. Get up close and personal with underwater creatures at SEA LIFE London Aquarium or explore the Science Museum, London’s interactive hub of science and technology.

The Program

This program is for Indian students in 9 – 11 grades who wish to visit the UK and have an educational and cultural experience. The course is a combination of time on the NTU campus and time on location in the city and region exploring museums, galleries and visitor attractions that will support their learning.

Course outcomes

It is expected that by the end of the course students would have gained new practical technical skills, have the knowledge of how to apply them to a project, have work for their portfolio and a greater understanding of the subject in an international context.

Assessment

There is no examination, but students will receive a certificate of attendance.

Tutors

The course will be delivered by Nottingham Trent University tutors who have extensive experience in delivering courses to this age group as well as excellent knowledge of the city and culture.

Global Immersion Program Focus - Design, Drawing and Creative Thinking

Through this program the students will:

  • Learn how to approach and execute design thinking
  • discover how to structure and tackle a project, whilst making the process simple
  • design and draw beyond what your mind perceives you are capable of
  • learn the importance of front-end design and user experience
  • use research imagery to drive open ideas and thinking
  • complete lateral thinking exercises to stimulate conceptual thinking
  • create a visual diary of your design thinking and explore your own visual language
  • work as ‘co-designers’ to enhance your ideas and those of others
  • learn how to draw in different perspectives and proportions
  • practise different types of sketching styles and consider how to approach them, including conceptual and technical drawings
Global Immersion Program Focus - Writing and the City of Literature

Through this program the students will:

  • Experience new ways of writing creatively from new sources of inspiration
  • Spend time on location, with the rest of your time developing writing in the classroom and editing your work
  • Be guided through the streets and buildings of Nottingham, learning how to gather visual stimuli and create a feeling of space and place
  • Use art, design and objects to generate new ideas
  • Undertake a range of exercises, each focusing on a different aspect of creative writing
  • Develop your personal approach, and give and receive feedback
  • Learn about the Nottingham writing scene and its place in English literature.
Students’ group

The program is designed for K12 students (8th to 12th grade)  from all disciplines with interest to explore, experience & excel. A good command of English and the willingness to actively participate during program activities are required.
